The Four Immeasurables
四無量心
May all beings have happiness and the cause of happiness.
May they be free of suffering and the cause of suffering.
May they never be disassociated from the supreme happiness which is without suffering.
May they remain in the boundless equanimity, free from both attachment to close ones and rejection of others.
願一切眾生具樂及樂因

It is said that the path of enlightenment needs the accumulation of merit and wisdom to be complete, just as a bird needs two wings to fly. Merit is that which accumulates as a result of good actions and intentions, producing good karma that carries over to later in life or to the next life.

Nirvana, is the highest spiritual state and the ultimate goal of Buddhism. The word comes from nir meaning `stop' and và meaning `to blow'. Thus nirvana is the extinguishing or blowing out of the fires of greed, hatred and ignorance.One attains nirvana and at death is no longer subject to rebirth and all the suffering that it entails.
